Research Interests

My research focuses on applications of neuroimaging and neural modeling to solve neurophysiological deficits.

My primary research at present is in conjunction with the Purdue Neurotrauma Group (PNG) and is related to the study of mild traumatic brain injury in the context of youth athletics. This work has led to significant local and national media attention, including coverage in Sports Illustrated, Time, and The Economist, along with appearances on PBS's Frontline, NOVA, and HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel.

In addition to my efforts in traumatic brain injury, I have long-standing research interests related to the auditory system. The primary aims of our work in this context are improved characterization of the auditory and speech processing, improvement of auditory rehabilitation and novel auditory neuroproshtesis development and refinement. These aims are addressed via investigations into the operation of the auditory pathway using psychophysical and neuroimaging (primarily fMRI) techniques. Additional application of my expertise is generally applied to neuroimaging through use of MRI.

My expertise in these areas was developed through training at both the Massachusetts General Hospital NMR Center and the Eaton-Peabody Laboratory at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary while a part of the (now) Speech and Hearing Bioscience and Technology graduate program, a part of the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology.
